History

CELEBRATING 98 YEARS!

Begun in 1923, the Scholastics Art and Writing Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S. and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. The awards have an impressive roster of past winners including Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, John Baldessari, Sylvia Plath, Phillip Pearlstein, John Currin and Robert Redford.

The Art Awards programs recognizes the work of talented young artists in Grades 7-12. Jurors from a wide variety of art disciplines evaluate each work entered in one of sixteen 2D and 3D media categories. Younger grade levels are juried separately from older grade levels. Jurors do not consider students’ names or schools and artwork is judged solely on originality, technical proficiency and personal vision.

All students whose entries are selected for inclusion in the Miami Valley Regional Exhibition held here at K12 Gallery & TEJAS are awarded a Gold Key, Silver Key or Honorable Mention and will receive a certificate of merit at the Regional Awards celebration.

At the completion of our Regional exhibition, Gold Key artworks are sent to New York City via digital form to compete for national honors with others from Regional art exhibitions from across the United States.
