Painting & Portfolio Development: July 20-24; 9:30-3:00
AM: Allegory in Painting Discover various painting techniques while learning how artists throughout history have used allegorical images to convey complex ideas to views. Allegory in art is when the subject of the artwork, or the various elements that form the composition, is used to symbolize a deeper moral or spiritual meaning such as life, death, love, virtue or justice. Artists serving as inspiration include Van Eyck, Brugel, Vermeer, Dali and Rembrandt. Students have the option of working with acrylic or oil paint.
PM: Portfolio Development Designed for artists who are considering pursuing art as a career or continue their arts training at the university level. You will spend most of your time working on developing your artistic knowledge and abilities pertaining composition, technique, content and developing themes. You will be introduced to new processes and media each day while creating a series of artworks based on a specific theme. You’ll also learn about pursuing a career in the arts while looking at examples of strong portfolios and learning about college applications and art exhibition submission processes. Students are encouraged to bring examples of their artwork for the first day of class for feedback.
